Zamboanga- In line with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to intensify border control and uphold immigration laws, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) arrested a Chinese national posing as a Filipino during an operation in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay on April 16.
Arrested was Wenyu Lin, 51, who was found misrepresenting himself as a Filipino using multiple government-issued identification cards bearing different names but carrying his photograph. Authorities discovered that he was using aliases including Anson Lais Lim to conceal his true identity.
Operatives from the BI Intelligence Division, in coordination with military and police units, conducted surveillance and moved in after confirming the subject’s presence. Upon confrontation, Lin admitted ownership of the fraudulent IDs, including a driver’s license, tax identification cards, and health and postal IDs issued under different identities.
Further verification revealed that Lin’s passport had already expired in 2011, rendering him undocumented. He was also found to be engaged in unauthorized activities despite holding a retiree visa, and was flagged for posing a risk to public safety and national security.
Authorities likewise uncovered documents indicating that Lin may have misrepresented his minor children as Filipino nationals by securing Philippine passports under fictitious identities.
The BI said Lin was arrested on-site, informed of his rights, and brought to the local police station for booking and documentation. He will undergo deportation proceedings.
BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado underscored the seriousness of identity fraud involving foreign nationals.
“This case exposes a deliberate and systematic attempt to undermine Philippine laws by falsely claiming Filipino identity—not only for himself but even for his children. We will pursue such offenders with full force of the law. The Bureau of Immigration will not allow anyone to abuse our identity systems or exploit our country for illegal gain,” Viado said.
The BI reiterated its warning that foreign nationals who misrepresent themselves as Filipinos or violate the conditions of their stay will be apprehended and deported. #
