KALIBO, Aklan- After graduating Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in English Language Studies from Aklan State University, Johnmark Kenneth Perez faced the challenge of finding work in Kalibo, Aklan. As the first college graduate and the eldest of four siblings, he felt a strong responsibility to support his family.
His opportunity came when he saw a Facebook post from PESO Kalibo about the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Government Internship Program (GIP). He applied and was accepted as a GIP beneficiary at PESO Kalibo, where he gained valuable experience in public service, improved his communication and administrative skills, and learned the importance of serving the community.
Because of his dedication and good performance, Johnmark was later hired by the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Kalibo as an Administrative Aide (Job Order) assigned to PESO Kalibo. He now assists job seekers, manages office records, and helps implement employment and livelihood programs.
For Johnmark, the Government Internship Program was more than temporary employment. It gave him practical work experience, financial support for his family, and a pathway to a career in public service. His journey shows that with determination and the right opportunity, young graduates can overcome unemployment and build a brighter future.
