SLPAs in Western Visayas Gear Up for Product Enhancement under Project Katha

Malay, Aklan- To help Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) participants develop, add value to, and gain recognition for their products, SLP staff from the National Program Management Office (NPMO) conducted capability building on product development and packaging for three SLP associations and three individual participants in Western Visayas who are joining Project Katha.

Project Development Officers from the SLP NPMO visited the Women United Through Handcrafted Lace and Embroidery (WUTHLE) SLPA in Santa Barbara, Iloilo for its bobbin lace products; Shirley Padojinog in Jordan, Guimaras for her Tultul Salt; Sto. Rosario Multipurpose Cooperative in Pandan, Antique for its bariw and buri products; Malay Ati Tribal Association in Malay, Aklan for its nito earrings; Elizabeth Rasonable of Banga, Aklan for her piña textile products; and AIB Weavers Association of Nabas, Aklan for its bariw products. The team also assessed the participants’ products and provided technical assistance to further improve them.

Moreover, these SLP participants officially joined Project Katha by signifying their willingness to endorse their products for development with the help of young designers from various institutions partnered with the SLP NPMO.

The salakot of Ramon Magsaysay Bamboo Crafters Association from San Remigio, Antique, and the buri fiber earrings and bags of Maricel Dela Cruz from Batan, Aklan were also assessed and were among the products endorsed to the SLP NPMO for product development.

Project Katha, anchored on the principles of rebuilding, rebranding, and reintegrating, seeks to strengthen the market competitiveness, sustainability, and profitability of SLP supported enterprises while giving them an identity through branding. This project will help participants enhance their products and packaging to increase their value and reach the high end market.

The activity was supported by staff from the SLP Field Office VI and representatives from the local government units (LGUs) of the abovementioned municipalities, who assisted in the conduct of the project visits and the capability building activity./cdf
