Legarda Leads Signing of Wastewater Treatment Plant Agreement with Slovenia in Antique

SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique — Senator Loren Legarda has led the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Republic of Slovenia for the establishment of a modern wastewater treatment plant in San Jose de Buenavista, Antique, underscoring the importance of clean water, environmental protection, and sustainable communities.
Legarda, together with the Provincial Government of Antique and the local government of San Jose de Buenavista, welcomed Slovenian Deputy Head of Mission Dragan Barbutovski for the formal signing of the agreement for the Wastewater Treatment Plant Project.
The MOA was signed by Barbutovski and San Jose de Buenavista Mayor PJ Untaran, witnessed by Antique Governor Paolo Javier and ANS President Roger Jomolo.
The proposed facility is expected to provide the municipality with a modern system for treating wastewater, supporting efforts to protect water resources and promote a cleaner and healthier environment for residents.

During the visit, Legarda and local officials also showcased several cultural and community landmarks to the Slovenian delegation, including the Esplanade, Balay na Bato, Old Capitol, Hibla Museum, and Tindahang Lokal.
Legarda also expressed her appreciation to Barbutovski for a meaningful gift called “Muzejska voda” or “Museum Water—Water for the Future.”
The bottle bears the imprint of a child’s hand from the Nuba Mountains in Sudan, where access to clean water remains a serious challenge. For Legarda, the gift serves as a powerful reminder of the value of water and the shared responsibility to protect this vital resource.
“Steps toward clean water are also steps toward stronger communities,” Legarda emphasized, stressing that protecting the country’s natural resources also means safeguarding public health, livelihoods, and the future of succeeding generations.
The partnership with Slovenia marks another step toward strengthening environmental initiatives in Antique, particularly efforts aimed at improving wastewater management and protecting water resources.
