Ilocos- The 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗺 (𝗗𝗢𝗧) 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝟭 welcomed members of the 𝗞𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗿 from 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟮𝟰 𝘁𝗼 𝟮𝟳, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, providing the delegates with a firsthand experience of the region’s diverse tourism offerings, rich cultural heritage, culinary traditions, adventure experiences, and warm Ilocano hospitality.

The familiarization tour covered key tourism destinations in 𝗜𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗼𝘀 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗼𝘀 𝗦𝘂𝗿, allowing the delegates to experience the region beyond promotional materials and gain a deeper appreciation of its potential as a destination for the Korean travel market.

Throughout the tour, the delegates explored a mix of natural, cultural, historical, and experiential tourism attractions, including heritage landmarks, scenic landscapes, coastal destinations, museums, traditional crafts, adventure activities, and local culinary experiences. These encounters provided the delegates with a comprehensive perspective of the distinctive tourism products and experiences that Region 1 can offer to international visitors.

The visit also highlighted the region’s strong culinary identity. The delegates were introduced to authentic Ilocano and Filipino flavors throughout their stay, demonstrating how gastronomy can complement destination experiences and serve as an important component in attracting international travelers.

A significant highlight of the activity was the Networking Dinner hosted by the Department of Tourism Region 1 at La Preciosa Restaurant, which brought together the Korean travel trade delegates and tourism stakeholders from the region.

The gathering provided an avenue for meaningful interaction, networking, and business-to-business engagement between the Korean delegates and local tourism stakeholders. It also created opportunities to discuss potential partnerships, tourism packages, and other initiatives that could strengthen the promotion of Region 1 in the Korean market.

DOT Region 1 Regional Director 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗷𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻 𝗗. 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗵𝗮𝗻, 𝗝𝗿. welcomed the delegates and presented the region’s tourism offerings and potential, emphasizing the diversity of experiences available across the Ilocos Region. From heritage and culture to nature, adventure, gastronomy, wellness, and community-based experiences, Region 1 continues to position itself as a destination capable of catering to varied international travel interests.

The networking dinner concluded with a message from Tourism Attaché 𝗗𝗿. 𝗘𝗿𝘄𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗲 of the Philippine Department of Tourism Korea Office, who expressed his appreciation for the successful gathering and the warm reception extended to the Korean delegation.

The familiarization tour also included interactions with tourism establishments and property inspections, allowing the delegates to gain insights into the region’s accommodation facilities and tourism services. These engagements are important in helping travel professionals assess the destination and identify opportunities for future travel programs and tour packages.

The visit to Region 1 formed part of the continuing efforts to strengthen tourism relations between the Philippines and the Korean market. By bringing members of the Korean travel trade directly to the destination, the activity provided an opportunity for them to experience firsthand the attractions, hospitality, culture, and tourism products that can be promoted to prospective Korean travelers.

More than a destination familiarization activity, the undertaking served as a bridge between cultures and tourism stakeholders, creating opportunities for stronger industry connections and future collaboration. The meaningful exchanges between the Korean delegates and Region 1 stakeholders demonstrated the importance of partnerships in expanding the region’s international tourism presence.

The successful conduct of the familiarization tour was made possible through the collective efforts of the Department of Tourism Region 1, the Philippine Department of Tourism Korea Office, provincial and local government units, tourism offices, hotels, restaurants, travel and tour operators, and other tourism stakeholders.

For DOT Region 1, the visit represents another step toward strengthening the region’s presence in the international tourism market and establishing lasting partnerships with travel trade partners abroad.
