CAMIGUIN โ€” The province of Camiguin is hosting its inaugural World BirdFest 2026 from November 5 to 7, bringing together bird photographers, nature enthusiasts and environmental advocates to promote birdwatching tourism and biodiversity conservation.

Organized by the Provincial Government of Camiguin through its Provincial Tourism Department, in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)โ€“Camiguin and Sony Philippines, the three-day event highlights the island provinceโ€™s diverse birdlife, including endemic species.

A major attraction of the festival is the Bird Photography Race, which offers participants the opportunity to win up to โ‚ฑ50,000 by capturing striking images of birds in their natural habitats.

The competition encourages photographers to explore Camiguinโ€™s forests and other natural environments while documenting its bird species in flight, in their habitats, and in their most remarkable moments.

According to Art Boncato, Mindanao tourism advocate and former Department of Tourism undersecretary, the festival aims to strengthen Camiguinโ€™s appeal as a birdwatching destination while raising public awareness of biodiversity and environmental protection.

The inaugural World BirdFest also underscores the importance of responsible tourism and conservation in preserving the provinceโ€™s natural resources for future generations.
