MAKATO, Aklan – An Akeanon based in California, USA is currently on the lead in the promotion of a Pinoy movie worldwide.

Tommie Mopia, who hails from Makato, Aklan told the Boracay Island News Network that the movie is dubbed as ‘How to Get Away From My Toxic Family: A Milestone for Filipino Cinema in the U.S.

The movie, a poignant family drama (story by Ogie Diaz and co-produced with KreativDen), stars Zanjoe Marudo as Arsenio, a hardworking OFW chef who returns home from Dubai to pursue his dream of owning a restaurantโ€”only to find himself ensnared in painful family conflicts. The story forces audiences to reflect on where the line between sacrifice and selfishness truly lies.

U.S. Promotion by Global Artists Entertainment

The film marked a historic first for Global Artists Entertainment, led by CEO Tommie Mopia (Beverly Hills, CA headquarters), in collaboration with Oliver Carnay of International Artists PR and Talent Management. Together, they proudly served as the exclusive U.S. promoter of the movie, making this project the flagship film tour under Global Artists Entertainment.

With sold-out premieres across the United States, the tour launched in Colorado Springs, then expanded to Las Vegas, Nevada; New York; and Honolulu, Hawaii.
Mopia highlighted the companyโ€™s pride in showcasing the project as a tribute to modern-day heroesโ€”the OFWs (Overseas Filipino Workers). He expressed gratitude for the enthusiastic support from Filipino American communities and pledged to bring more Filipino films and live concerts to U.S. cities in the future.

Historic Recognition in Colorado Springs

Following the Colorado Springs premiere, Mopia and his team were honored with Certificates of Commendation in the presence of Hon. Donna LaVigne (Philippine Honorary Consulate of Colorado and Southern Wyoming) and Ms. Yemi Sanchez, representing Mayor Yemi Mobolade of Colorado Springs. The mayorโ€™s office and the consulate also presented a plaque of commendation, recognizing the event as the first-ever Filipino movie premiere in Colorado.
This unprecedented recognition symbolizes the growing cultural pride and visibility of the Filipino community across the U.S.

Producerโ€™s Reflection

Producer Ogie Diaz shared his heartfelt appreciation for the collaboration:

โ€œWith How to Get Away From My Toxic Family, we set out to tell a story that resonates deeply with audiencesโ€”especially those who know the immense love and sacrifice of OFWs. This film is raw and honest about what happens when those bonds shift from support to pain. We hope it sparks conversations about family, expectations, and the courage to choose oneโ€™s own happiness, even when it means making difficult choices.โ€
