Boracay Island, Aklan—The acting chief of the Port Cruise Ship Operation and Special Projects of the Aklan Provincial Government anticipates the arrival of some 23 cruise ships from overseas to visit this resort island by the end of 2025.
In a chance interview, Niven Maquirang told the Manila Standard that at least eight cruise ships will visit Boracay until the end of the year. Some 15 more are coming from different companies and are expected to be seen next year.
Most of the cruise ship’s passengers are expected to visit Boracay on a one-day tour. Cruise ships have started arriving in Boracay since 2014. They come here on a seasonal basis based on the demands of their clients.
“I was informed that a South Korean agency on the maritime industry will be coming to Aklan soon to help us transform Aklan into a cruise ship hub. They are expected to forge a Memorandum of Understanding with the Aklan Provincial Government,” Maquirang said.
As this develops, Buruanga Mayor Concepcion Labindao said the dredging operation of the P298.34 million of the port project under the Philippine Port Authority (PPA) is set to commence next month.
Labindao said the dredging operation is set to pave the way for a P743, 977, 945.89 cruise ship port in Barangay Alegria, Buruanga Aklan.
