Iloilo City- Three (3) Farmers Associations (FAs) in Bingawan, Iloilo proudly showcased their fresh farm produce and demonstrated community spirit during the Bingawan Market Day held for three consecutive weeks – September 11, 18, and 25, 2025 – earning a total combined income of Php 17,945.

The weekly Market Day, held every Thursday outside the Bingawan Market from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM, was spearheaded by the Bingawan Federation of Farmers Association, Inc. (BiFFAI) – a coalition of 24 FAs — with strong support from Municipal Mayor Matt P. Palabrica.

The momentum began on September 11, 2025 when the Poblacion Bingawan FA (POBFA), a SAAD-assisted FA, joined the launching of activity. They successfully sold 20 trays of fresh eggs and generated an income of Php 4,840 on the first day alone. Since the first display was successful, the group decided to join again as this serves as another income-generating opportunity.

Encouraged by this initial success, Sitio Maganhop FA (SOMAFA) joined on September 18 alongside POBFA and also displayed their various leafy greens and rootcrops such as okra or ladyfinger, pechay, latoy or stringbeans, takway or taro runner, tambo or bamboo shoot, balinghoy or cassava, mustasa or mustard greens, and alogbate or Malabar spinach. These vegetables came from both their communal and individual production areas, of which some of these seeds were provided by the Program.

Their third display took place last September 25, 2025, in which POBFA and Tubod FA had a consolidated income of Php 7,825. Unlike POBFA who sold eggs straight from their SAAD project, Tubod displayed their bananas and kalamansi produce from their personal venture.

This activity is part of a wider effort in driving the local economy of Bingawan and to strengthen food systems in rural communities. With the products derived from SAAD production projects and the initiatives from our local partners, the farmers have access to a direct income stream and positions the community as a reliable source of fresh produce for local consumers and businesses alike.

Ms. Connie Carillo of BiFFAI posted the shots from the Market Day with a caption articulating the activity’s core objective.

“Ini nga activity may tinututuyo nga mapakita sang mga mangunguma sang Bingawa, Iloilo ang ila nagkalain-lain nga mga produkto kag maka-ganyat man sa mga vendors nga diri na lang mangompra sa Bingawan agud magapadayon man nga mag-produce ang mga mangunguma. Support the local kita.”

(The purpose of this activity is to provide a platform for the farmers of Bingawan, Iloilo to showcase their various agricultural products and to encourage other vendors to buy wholesale in the municipality. By supporting local products, we can encourage our farmers to continue their production.)
