Boracay Island, Malay Aklan—The Malay Tourism Office registered a record-breaking 10,725 foreign and local tourist arrivals in a day on this resort island on December 26, 2024.
Malay Mayot Frolibar Bautista told this writer that they did not expect the surge of tourists a day after Christmas. For years, Boracay has been known as a holiday destination in the country.
According to the Malay Tourism Office, Boracay registered more than 25,000 foreign and local tourists on December 23-25, which translates to more than 8,000 daily tourist arrivals.
“Of the 10, 725 figures we still did not breach the tourism capacity of Boracay. They assumed they would be staying here on a three-stay. Our daily tourism capacity is 8,504,” he said without further elaborating.
The DENR approved the 8, 504 maximum capacity this year.
Bautista attributed the surge of tourists to their promotional campaign during the World Travel Market, which was recently held in Madeira, Portugal. The event declared Boracay a leading global luxury destination.
Felix Delos Santos, the tourism office chief, said that they had reached 2 million tourist arrivals last December 23.
“In the past, the highest number of tourists coming to Boracay was 7,000 tourists on an average daily. Last December 23, we recorded around 8,000 tourists coming,” he added.
On January 13, 2024, the Malay Tourism Office recorded 10, 919 tourists joining the ati-atihan parade at the beach. But the number is a compilation of tourists coming in Boracay few days prior to the event,
Reports coming from the Newcoast Boracay are now fully booked.
Jennifer Campos, a Filipina migrant from Australia said she came to Boracay with her family at the prodding of her kids,
“My children saw a lot of vlogs about Boracay. They have never been here. I came here in 2006 when I was not yet married. So I want my children to experience what they only saw in videos. Thank you because what the government did to Boracay now makes us proud, we who are living overseas,” she said.
