BORACAY ISLAND— The skies over the eastern side of Boracay were transformed into a vibrant display of artistry as the first-ever Boracay Newcoast Kite Festival officially took flight on April 27, 2026.
The three-day event, held at Cove 2 of the Boracay Newcoast integrated tourism development, marks a new addition to the island’s summer calendar. Organized in partnership with the Malay Municipal Tourism Office and the Kite Association of the Philippines, the festival aims to promote traditional craftsmanship alongside modern outdoor recreatioation.

Festival Highlights and Competition
The event opened with a ceremonial flying of a massive Delta Kite, symbolizing the launch of the festivities. The centerpiece of the celebration is the “High Above: The Grand Kite Competition,” where participants are competing in three distinct categories:
- Flat Kites: Traditional designs focusing on balance and flight.
- Figure Kites: Creative shapes representing various characters or animals.
- 3D Geometric Kites: Complex, multi-dimensional structures that showcase advanced engineering and aesthetics.
Winners in each category are set to receive cash prizes, with the top spot in the professional categories fetching up to ₱15,000.
Expert Exhibitions and Community Engagement
Beyond the competition, the festival features a master exhibition led by Kite Master Cris Rosales. Attendees have the rare opportunity to witness high-performance kite maneuvers and view intricate, hand-crafted pieces that highlight the cultural significance of the sport in the Philippines.
For tourists and locals looking to get involved, the event offers hands-on kite-making workshops and “Kite Flying 101” sessions. These activities are designed to be family-friendly, encouraging younger generations to learn the basics of aerodynamics and design.

A New Tradition
”The festival introduces a fresh attraction that enriches the island’s tourism landscape,” said organizers. The event also features a photography contest and a sunset “after-party” with illuminated LED kites and live music, bridging the gap between traditional sport and modern island nightlife.
The Kite Festival serves as a precursor to the larger Love Boracay 2026 celebrations, signaling a week-long stretch of festivities aimed at sustaining visitor interest and supporting local businesses on the island. The event is scheduled to conclude on April 29.
