Ati-Atihan Festival Hotel was filled with excitement, laughter, and the magic of stories as Kalibo celebrated National Storytelling Day on March 20. Organized by the
Movement of Gratitude in partnership with
NVC The Forum Publication, this first-time storytelling event hoped to inspire the learners of Bliss Child Development Center to embrace the joy of reading and learning.
At the heart of the event were three captivating stories, including Engkanto sa Bukid it Tigayon, a cherished
Kalibo legend highlighting honesty, gratitude, and contentment. An interactive question-and-answer segment earned children a McDonaldโs Happy Meal Readers Book for those who answered the questions correctly. By the end of the event, every child took home a copy as a keepsake.
Next came โThe Little Red Hen,โ a story about the values of being helpful and working hard. To bring the storyโs lesson to life, the children enjoyed an Easter egg coloring activity which they did with their parents. The final story, โMrs. McNosh and the Great Big Squash,โ made the kids laugh and encouraged them to see challenges as opportunities. To top it all off, each child received a delightful gift bag filled with hygiene kits, school supplies, sweet treats, and refreshing drinks, generously provided by sponsors.
A special highlight of the day was a surprise birthday celebration for Vice Mayor Dr. Cynthia Dela Cruz, a strong supporter of the initiative. The children gave her fresh flowers, and the joyful presence of McDonald’s mascot Birdie made the kids extra happy. Together, they sang, danced, and indulged in cake and ice cream, making the day unforgettable.
In her heartfelt message, Vice Mayor Dela Cruz reminded parents of the preciousness of childhood, urging them to be present and patient with their little ones, especially in their formative years.
Beyond just a day of storytelling, this event was a beautiful reminder of the power of books as a foundation of learning, igniting young imaginations and instilling lifelong values. National Storytelling Day in Kalibo was not only about telling storiesโit was about creating memories, shaping minds, and inspiring future generations of readers and dreamers.
