KALIBO, Aklan- April 24โ30, 2025 marks the observance of World Immunization Week, and in line with this global campaign, Vice Mayor Dr. Cynthia I. Dela Cruz is renewing her call for parents and guardians in Kalibo to actively support the immunization of their children.
A practicing pediatrician for over 40 years in Kalibo, Dr. Dela Cruz has long been a strong advocate for child health and protection. She previously served as President of the Aklan Medical Society and as Governor of the Philippine Medical Association โ Western Visayas, championing health initiatives in the province and beyond.
โImmunization is one of the most effective ways to protect children against serious diseases,โ Dr. Dela Cruz emphasized. โAs we commemorate World Immunization Week, I encourage all parents to work with our health workers and make sure their children are fully immunized.โ
In coordination with the Rural Health Unit of Kalibo, barangay health workers, and school health personnel, the campaign aims to strengthen the routine immunization of children, especially in early childhood and school age.
To be considered a Fully Immunized Child (FIC), a child must receive the following vaccinations:
โข BCG (Bacillus CalmetteโGuรฉrin) โ for tuberculosis
โข Hepatitis B vaccine
โข DPT (Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus) โ 3 doses
โข OPV (Oral Polio Vaccine) โ 3 doses
โข Pentavalent vaccine โ combines protection against diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, hepatitis B, and Haemophilus influenzae type B
โข PCV (Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine)
โข MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) or MR (Measles-Rubella) vaccine

Dr. Dela Cruz pointed out that the campaign also aims to address barriers such as misinformation, logistical concerns, and complacency.
โVaccines have been proven over decades to be safe and effective. Every dose given is a step toward a healthier, stronger community,โ she added.
The Vice Mayor calls on all families, barangay officials, and community leaders to support the efforts of the Rural Health Unit and to take part in the scheduled immunization activities from April 24 to 30, and beyond.
With unity and commitment, Kalibo can ensure that no child is left unprotected. Let this World Immunization Week be a reminder โ health starts with prevention, and prevention begins with vaccination.
