
Two years since the COVID-19 pandemic, DTI-Aklan is set to hold the 22nd Aklan Piña and Fiber Festival on April 22-26, 2022 at the Aklan Trade Hall, Capitol Grounds, Kalibo, Aklan.
An estimate of 70 homegrown Aklanon Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) will participate in the said trade fair activity which will feature the new weaving blends of indigenous natural fibers and other raw materials.
The focus industries will be the Wearables and Homestyle with emphasis on abaca, piña, and raffia fiber processing along with other items for homestyle from nito, bamboo, and coconut-based products; Processed Food including frozen meat, fruit juices, cacao, and coconut-based food products.
Several side activities are in store during the five-day event. There will be a launching of the Digital Catalogue, Mini-Fashion Show by Modèle d’aklan, Awarding of Best Design and Best Designer (Wearables: Casual and Formal Wear), craft demonstrations, and an assistance desk for information dissemination of DTI and Negosyo Center services.
“We are all looking forward to this year’s Aklan Piña and Fiber Festival. It has been some time since we were able to conduct this trade fair and we hope that this will be very helpful in the promotion of our local MSMEs and their products. The pandemic cannot stop us from getting back in the market, locally and even globally,” says DTI-Aklan Provincial Director Ma. Carmen I. Iturralde.
The activity is in partnership with the Provincial Government of Aklan, the Bureau of Domestic Trade and Promotion (BDTP), Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA), the Provincial Micro, Small and Medium Development Council (PMSMED), Aklan Piña Mantra Association, Inc., Hugod Aklanon Producers Association, Inc., and the Aklan Wearables & Homestyle Council.
Further, confirmed institutional buyers are from Rustan’s Department Store, Tesoro’s Philippine Handicrafts, Balikbayan Handicrafts, and SM Kultura.
