Pasay City- The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) empowers its members to take control of their electricity costs by making the shift to solar energy more accessible through the Ginhawa Solar Energy Loan (GSEL)β€”helping families save more each month while investing in a cleaner, more sustainable energy source.

This initiative directly supports the call of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to widen access to renewable energy at the household level. This translates policy direction into practical solutions that ease upfront costs.

As of April 21, the GSIS has received more than P5.7 billion in loan applications under GSEL. The strong response shows that more members are looking for practical ways to manage household expenses.

Under the program, qualified GSIS members may borrow up to P500,000 at 5 percent annual interest, payable over 60 months. The loan carries a maximum monthly amortization of P10,416.67 and includes three years of free insurance for the solar panels.

For many members, the main benefit is clear: lower monthly power bills.

One of them is Judith Rabacal of Northern Negros State College in Bacolod, who availed herself of the loan to help reduce electricity costs at home. β€œNaka-install na ang solar ko, at inaabangan ko na ang pagbaba ng bayad sa kuryente sa susunod na buwan,” Rabacal said.

Her experience reflects how the program can help members invest in a practical, longer-term solution to rising utility expenses.

β€œThrough GSEL, we are helping our members take control of their electricity costs by giving them access to financing for solar panels,”  GSIS President and General Manager Wick Veloso said. β€œThe shift to cleaner energy is an added benefit; for many families, the immediate value is the savings it can bring month after month.”

Applications are accepted exclusively through the GSIS Touch mobile app.

The program supports the President’s call to ease household energy costs while promoting cleaner energy sources. GSEL has a total budget of P12.5 billion, including P60 million allocated for insurance coverage.

Eligible applicants must be active GSIS members with at least three years of government service and at least six months of paid premium contributions. They must also have no GSIS loans in default, except housing loans.
