
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) today announced the seizure of various ukay-ukay products by the NBI-Cebu District Office (NBI-CEBDO) in Lapu-Lapu City.\
NBI Officer-In-Charge (OIC) Director Eric B. Distor said that on February 18, 2022, NBI-CEBDO assisted by the NBI-Central Visayas Regional Office (NBI-CEVRO); and in coordination with the Bureau of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Services (CIIS) and Enforcement Security Group (ESS-Custom’s Police) implemented a Search Warrant issued by Lapu-Lapu City RTC against the premises of MINJ ABATAYO, owner of MINJ UKAY UKAY Clothing.
The Search Warrant was issued against the Subject’s premises for violation of R.A. 4653 (Illegal commercial importation of used clothing/rugs) in relation to Section 6. Of R.A. 10175 (Anti-Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012) for selling assorted used clothes “ukay-ukay” believed to be from Korea and Japan through online.
The caretakers of the premises failed to present any document or business permit authorizing the sale of the said imported products. Thus, the joint operatives seized 300 bundles/bales of assorted VIP used clothes with an estimated value of Php 2 Million.
Further investigation revealed that the place Subject of the Search Warrant is actually owned by a certain CRESSIA CABALES-ANTONIO, a Manila-based trader from the certification obtained from CAMELLA Homeowners’ Association and the counselled statements from her employees who were at the place operating and maintaining the business for and in behalf of their employer CRESSIA ABALES-ANTONIO.
