MANILA—The Bureau of Immigration (BI) is strengthening its frontline services with the deployment of newly trained immigration officers, marking a significant step towards the agency’s Bagong Immigration vision.

This initiative aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s call for a modernized, professionalized, and digitally advanced immigration service. As the country continues to enhance border security and streamline processes, the government remains committed to ensuring that immigration officers are well-equipped to handle the demands of their critical role.

A total of 30 graduates of the Border Control Officers’ Module (BCOM) I Class 35 officially completed their training in a ceremony held at the BI’s head office in Intramuros last March 21.

“These new officers represent the future of Philippine immigration,” said BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado. “Through rigorous training, they have developed the expertise needed to secure our borders while ensuring efficient service for travelers. Their deployment is a testament to our commitment to modernization and excellence,” he added.

The BI’s Learning and Development Section (LDS), led by Officer-in-Charge Kryse Mende, reported that the trainees underwent five weeks of intensive training at Philippine Immigration Academy training facility in Intramuros.

The program covered essential immigration laws, arrival and departure protocols, document examination, and national security enforcement.

The class is composed of 16 female and 14 male officers, reflecting a nearly equal gender distribution.

The new officers will be deployed as frontliners at the country’s international entry and exit points, with the majority assigned to Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3.

Their presence is expected to reinforce the BI’s ability to ensure border security while providing efficient immigration services.

“This is just the beginning,” Viado added. “As we implement our Bagong Immigration vision, we will continue to invest in training and development to build a stronger, more capable workforce that serves both the country and the traveling public with integrity and professionalism.” #
