The prompt response is in line with the directives of President Ferdinand R. CGS Aklan immediately initiated maritime search and rescue operations upon receiving a report from a concerned citizen regarding a half-submerged fishing banca identified as FBCA “AVE DEVINE.” Deployable Response Teams (DRT) were promptly deployed aboard at Malay MDRRMO rescue boat and a Southwest speedboat to the reported location.
Upon arrival at the area, the responding teams successfully rescued four individuals who were found exhausted beside their partially submerged motorbanca. The survivors were immediately transported to the Malay Municipal Hospital, where they were treated for near-drowning and later discharged with instructions for a follow-up medical check-up.
Initial investigation revealed that the vessel partially sank after a crew member accidentally punctured the hull during a fishing trip. No fatalities were reported.
The Philippine Coast Guard reiterates its commitment to safeguarding lives at sea and reminds all vessel operators to ensure the seaworthiness of their vessels and to promptly report any maritime emergencies to the nearest Coast Guard unit.
