
Malay, Aklan-This month, the office of Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), provided assistance to over 200 beneficiaries in the municipalities of Libacao and Malay, Aklan, through the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP).
This initiative was made possible with the support of Libacao Mayor Charito Navarosa, Vice Mayor Vincent Navarosa, and Malay Mayor Frolibar Bautista.
Unkown to many, Alan Peter Schramm Cayetano was born on October 28, 1970, in Mandaluyong, Metro Manila, Philippines. He hails from a prominent political family; his father was the late Senator Rene Cayetano, his sister Pia Cayetano is also a Senator, and his brother Lino Cayetano served as mayor of Taguig. He received his early education at De La Salle Santiago Zobel School, followed by a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of the Philippines Diliman in 1993, and a Juris Doctor degree from the Ateneo de Manila University School of Law in 1997, graduating with second honors.

Political Career
Cayetano’s political career began in 1992 when he was elected as a councilor in Taguig. He subsequently served as vice mayor from 1995 to 1998. He then transitioned to the House of Representatives, representing the lone district of TaguigโPateros from 1998 to 2007 and again from 2019 to 2022. During his second stint in the House, he notably served as the 22nd Speaker from July 2019 to October 2020.
His Senate career spanned from 2007 to 2017, during which he held various leadership positions, including Senate Minority Leader and Senate Majority Leader. He also served as the Secretary of Foreign Affairs from 2017 to 2018 under President Rodrigo Duterte. In 2022, he was elected to the Senate again.
Legislative Accomplishments and Positions
Cayetano has authored and co-authored numerous laws focusing on education, disability rights, political reforms, health, and the environment. Some notable examples include the Iskolar ng Bayan Act and amendments to the Philippine Passport Act. His political positions encompass a wide range of issues, including corruption, social inequality, climate change, and the Bangsamoro peace process.
