Kalibo, Aklan — As the world unites to celebrate World Health Day, the municipality of Kalibo proudly joins the call for “Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures,” the World Health Organization’s global campaign focused on reducing preventable maternal and newborn deaths while prioritizing long-term maternal health.
In small communities like Kalibo, this message hits close to home. With thousands of families depending on accessible and reliable healthcare, the local government’s efforts have made real change possible—one mother, one child, and one family at a time.
Much of Kalibo’s progress is credited to the strong and united leadership of Mayor Juris Sucro and Vice Mayor Dr. Cynthia Dela Cruz. Their effective partnership has paved the way for investments in both public and private healthcare infrastructure—ensuring that families have more choices and better access to essential services.
“Good health should not depend on where you live or how much you earn,” said Vice Mayor Dela Cruz. “Our goal is to make sure every family, especially mothers and children, can count on safe, quality care—whether in a barangay health center or a hospital.”
In 2023, Kalibo recorded 3,232 live births, with a crude birth rate of 35.58%—nearly double the national average of 19.57%. This is largely due to Kalibo’s growing role as Aklan’s health hub, where both public facilities and private hospitals serve not just residents but patients from nearby towns.
Perhaps most telling of the town’s progress is its infant mortality rate, which dropped to 6.18 per 1,000 population—far below the national average of 17.5. These numbers are more than just statistics—they reflect the outcome of real policies, community outreach, and long-term planning.

Under the Sucro-Dela Cruz leadership, the local government has expanded rural health units, upgraded birthing centers, and supported partnerships with private hospitals to ensure a wider network of care.
“We believe that when public and private sectors work together, families benefit the most,” Mayor Sucro shared. “Our health initiatives are not just about facilities—they’re about creating a community where health is a shared priority.”
As Kalibo celebrates World Health Day, families gather at community events, health clinics open their doors for wellness checkups, and the spirit of togetherness shines. In every corner of the municipality, the dream of a healthier, more hopeful future is being built—thanks to leadership that listens, plans, and cares.
