Malay, Aklan -โThis is very nice!”
That was how participants from LGU-Malay described the preliminary results of the 2024 Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) during the data presentation held on July 17, 2025, at the Conference Room of the municipal building.
The CBMS is an organized technology-based system of collecting, processing, and validating necessary disaggregated data, that may be used for planning, program implementation, and impact monitoring at the local level while empowering communities to participate in the process.
The attendeesโcomprising department heads from various municipal offices and members of the Municipal CBMS Coordinating Boardโconveyed their profound appreciation for the findings, highlighting their significance in crafnting evidence-based plans and programs for the municipality.
Mr. Dienes T. Cabular, Executive Assistant IV of Cooperative Development Office, acknowledged the importance of CBMS in planning and profiling the socio-economic conditions of Malayโs residents, noting that the data could serve as a basis for development initiatives.
โThrough these data, we can say that our plans and programs are aligned with the specific needs of the community,โ said Mr. Cabular.
He further pointed out that several indicators in the report could support the LGUโs ongoing application for cityhood.
In addition to the information presented, Mr. Cabular expressed interest in statistics related to migration, ethnic origin, family size, and the availability of basic household amenitiesโparticularly in Boracay Island.
Mr. Peter S. Mangilog, Senior Statistical Specialist of PSA-Aklan who facilitated the presentation, responded that all of these data points are available in the CBMS and may be accessed by the LGU once the dataset is officially turned over.
Meanwhile, Mr. Mark T. Delos Reyes, Local Government Operations Officer VI of DILG Aklan Provincial Office, extended his gratitude to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) for generating the data and acknowledged its potential to support local planning and program development.
On a related note, Ms. Jona A. Solano, the PESO Manager, raised concerns about employment-related statistics, emphasizing that such data is essential in identifying and assisting the unemployed.
โWe recognize that not all unemployed individuals are actively seeking work, so we want to identify who among them truly needs employment assistance,โ she said.
In response, Mr. Mangilog explained that labor force information is part of the CBMS and that the LGU would be able to generate relevant economic indicators tailored to their needs.
To conclude, Mr. Jaylord Claud of the Municipal Planning and Development Office, conveyed gratitude to PSA Aklan on behalf of the municipal mayor, stating that the LGU had long awaited this information and was pleased that it had finally arrived.
Feedback and insights gathered during the presentation and open forum were duly noted and will be considered to further improve future data collection efforts.
The 2024 CBMS results will serve as the first official dataset for LGU-Malay.
