Kalibo Mayor Shares Secret to Winning Inter-Town Basketball Cup
KALIBO, Aklan — Kalibo Mayor Juris Bautista-Sucro has shared the secret behind Team Bagong Kalibo’s victory in the recently concluded Inter-Town Open Basketball Tournament.
It can be recalled that Kalibo won the championship in a best-of-three series against Team Bomba Malay. Kalibo scored 89 points, compared to Malay’s 75.
“I commend our players. Their secret to winning the game was to pray hard, play smart, and stick to the game plan. It worked!” Sucro said.
In the said series, Jeric Cinco of Team Bagong Kalibo was declared the Most Valuable Player.
For his part, former Malay Councilor Datu Yap Sumndad conceded the result of the game.
“Battle in the spirit of sportsmanship. Lumaban nang buo ang loob na purong Malaynon. We might be amateurs, but our hearts are full of love for basketball. We respect our team and especially all the teams we play against every game. Salamat, Aklan, at sa Malay na walang sawang pagsuporta sa bawat laro. Sana ay napasaya namin kayong lahat,” Sumndad said in his Facebook post.
Before the finals, Team Bomba Malay introduced another import, Kenneth Oumba, a standout basketball player from Cameroon. He has been a crowd favorite in various Philippine basketball leagues. Standing at 6’6″, he frequently plays in local leagues across the country. He has also played in the FAP Basketball African League, FIBA, Eurobasket, and the Pinoy Liga Cup.
