Good News Story : DOLE livelihood aims for local peace

DOLE Regional Office No. 6 remains committed to its mandate to provide employment and livelihood, maintain industrial harmony and promote peace in the hinterlands through its programs and services.

As member of the Poverty Reduction, Livelihood and Employment Cluster (PRLEC) of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC), DOLE RO 6 continuously provides livelihood assistance to preserve peace in areas that were once bothered by local conflicts.

In its latest effort to promote peace, the NTF-ELCAC has categorized Barangay Jayobo in the municipality of Lambunao, Iloilo β€œcleared” and was provided with assistance to maintain peace and to develop self-reliant, productive, resilient and sustainable community through harmonized and culturally responsive development programs.

Regional Director Atty. Sixto T. Rodriguez, Jr. underscored the importance of the livelihood assistance for economic stability among the local residents to promote local peace.

True to its commitment, DOLE provided a capital outlay of Php984,621 for Hog Production and Fattening, and Sari-sari Store Projects of 33 beneficiaries who are farmers, women and senior citizens.

The livelihood enterprise is basically feasible in the barangay. Pigpens are already available in the backyard of the beneficiaries who were provided with 3 piglets, commercial feeds, vitamins and de-wormer for the first cycle of production. To maintain sustainability, only 2 hogs will be disposed while 1 female will be retained for breeding.

The stores, on the other hand, are annexed to the residence of the beneficiaries. For this project, the beneficiaries will be provided with basic items, as enhancement of their businesses. These basic items include rice, canned goods, instant noodles, coffee, milk and cleaning materials.

DOLE will also shoulder the 1-year insurance of the beneficiaries through the GSIS Group Personal Accident Insurance (GSIS-GPAI) while the local government unit of Brgy. Jayobo will cover the expenses for the supervision, monitoring and administrative cost, as its counterpart.

The project is an individually managed project and the income earned will directly benefit the beneficiaries.
