
KALIBO, AKLAN Four out of ten persons aged 10 years old and over in the province of Aklan are single or never-married based on the 2020 Census of Population and Housing results released by the Philippine Statistics Authority.
Out of 497, 229 total household population 10 years old and above, 197, 653 or about 39.8 percent have marital status as single.
Of these number, 108, 930 or 55 percent are males, and 88, 723 or 45 percent are females which translates to a sex ratio of 123 single males for every 100 single females.
The number of single persons in Aklan contracted by 2.9 percent compared to 2015 census data of 203, 583.
Among the municipalities, higher number of single individuals were observed in Kalibo with 28, 798, representing about 15 percent of the total single persons aged 10 years old and above.
This was followed by Malay with 8.7 percent (or 17, 155), Ibajay with 8.6 percent (or 17, 092), New Washington with 7.6 percent (or 15, 007), and Nabas with 6.7 percent (13, 290).
In terms of proportion, Ibajay has the highest number of single men with 56.2 percent, which is equivalent to 9, 604 out of the 17, 092.
This was followed by Malinao with 56.1 (4, 516 out of 8, 048), Altavas with 56.0 percent (4, 604 out of 8, 224), Madalag with 56.0 (3, 616 out of 6, 460), and Nabas with 55.9 (7, 435 out of 13, 290
On the other hand, highest proportion of never-married women were noted in Kalibo with 46.1 percent (13, 276 out of 28, 798), Numancia with 45.8 percent (5, 172 out of 11, 294), Libacao with 45.7 percent (4, 222 out of 9, 231), Banga with 45.3 percent (6, 003 out of 13, 247), and Malay with 45.2 percent (7, 755 out of 17, 155).
Meanwhile, a total of 132, 621 (or 42.3 percent) aged 15 to 49 years old who are singles in Aklan were recorded during the latest census count.
In this age category, never-married persons aged 15-19 years old accounted for the highest proportion with 53, 532 or about 39 percent, followed by 20-24 years old with 37, 709 (27.4 percent), and 25-29 years old with 20, 170 (14.7 percent).
The highest number of single males was observed in the age bracket of 40-44 years old, with 64.3 percent (2,202 out of 3,422), followed by 35-39 years old with 64.2 percent (3,551 out of 5,533), and 45-49 years old with 62.7 percent (1,316 out of 2,100).
On the contrary, more single females were noted at the age of 15-19 years old, accounting for 47.2 percent (25,285 out of 53,532), 20-24 years old with 43.1 percent (16,238 out of 37,709), and 25-29 years old with 39.1 percent (7,896 out of 20,170).
Aside from never-married individuals, about 194,727 persons (39.2 percent) were recorded as married, and 72,614 (14.6 percent) were in common-law or live-in relationships based on latest census in the province.
