Academy for Campus Journalism Launch in Kalibo

KALIBO, Aklan — To empower young press freedom advocates and hone the storytelling skills of student journalists, the Local Government Unit of Kalibo has officially launched the Kalibo Academy for Campus Journalism.

Kalibo Vice Mayor Phillip Y. Kimpo said the initiative aims to serve as a specialized training ground for elementary, high school, and college campus journalists across the municipality. By providing mentorship from seasoned media professionals, workshops, and practical field experience, the academy seeks to prepare student writers and broadcasters for local, regional, and national competitions—such as the Schools Press Conference—while fostering ethical reporting.

It teaches our youth critical thinking, accountability, and the power of truth,” Kimpo shared during the launch event. “Through the Kalibo Academy for Campus Journalism, we are investing in the next generation of truth-tellers who will highlight the stories of Aklan.”
