Aklan youth lead ‘Project GROW’ for food security, mark Linggo ng Kabataan 2026

KALIBO, Aklan – As the province joins the nation in celebrating Linggo ng Kabataan 2026, young Aklanons will take center stage in advancing food security and sustainable development through Project GROW (Growing Resilient Opportunities for Wellness) on August 3, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon across all municipalities in Aklan.

Spearheaded by the Provincial Youth Development Council, in partnership with the Office of the Provincial Agriculture (OPA), Aklan Provincial Youth Development Office, and the 4-H Club Aklan Chapter, the initiative aligns with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2: Zero Hunger.

Project GROW is a youth-led initiative designed to address both immediate and long-term needs of food security. The four-hour activity will bring together different sectors to deliver nutrition education, set up community food pantries, distribute vegetable seedlings, and engage young people in sustainable agriculture practices.

Beyond ensuring access to nutritious food, the project aims to promote healthier lifestyles and strengthen local food systems that are resilient to challenges such as climate change and rising food prices.

The activity also serves as an opportunity to introduce the 4-H Club Aklan Chapter to more youth across the province, encouraging them to join programs that build leadership skills, knowledge in agriculture, entrepreneurship, volunteer spirit, and environmental stewardship.
“This initiative proves that the youth are not just beneficiaries of development—they are active partners in building a better future,” said a statement from the Provincial Youth Development Council. “Through strong collaboration among Local Youth Development Offices, Sangguniang Kabataan, the Office of the Provincial Agriculture, and the 4-H Club, we empower our young people to contribute directly to ending hunger and making our communities healthier, greener, and more self-reliant.”

All activities will be conducted simultaneously in all municipalities, with local SK councils and youth development offices coordinating implementation at the community level.
