Aboitiz InfraCapital Cebu Airport leads push to connect six Visayas destinations

CEBU CITY โ Aboitiz InfraCapital Cebu Airport Corporation (ACAC) has partnered with the Department of Tourism (DOT) and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) to position Cebu as a gateway to multi-island travel, expanding tourism opportunities across the Visayas, including Boracay.
The partnership was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed on October 23, 2026, at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) under the โDiscover the Visayas, #FlyViaCebuโ campaign.
The agreement was signed by DOT Undersecretary for Tourism Development Planning Stanley K. Ng, MCIAA General Manager Ricia Montejo, and PCCI President Ferdinand A. Ferrer, marking a collaborative effort to connect air travel with the diverse island experiences of the Visayas.
Undersecretary Ng highlighted the important role of airports in connecting travelers not only to their primary destinations but also to nearby islands, encouraging visitors to explore more places during their trips.
Boracay among six featured destinations
The campaign’s initial rollout will feature six destinations: Lapu-Lapu, Panglao, Boracay, Siquijor, Guimaras, and Biliran.
Through Cebu’s air connectivity, the initiative aims to encourage tourists to visit multiple destinations in one trip, potentially increasing visitor spending and creating new opportunities for tourism enterprises across the region.
The campaign also complements the One Visayas Tourism Circuit, which features three thematic routes: UNESCO Heritage and Gastronomy Trails, Diving Expeditions, and Heritage Trails and Cultural Discoveries of the Visayas.
These routes highlight the region’s cultural heritage, culinary traditions, and marine attractions across Western, Central, and Eastern Visayas, as well as the Negros Island Region.
Expanding opportunities for tourism businesses
Under the partnership, DOT regional offices will work with local government units and tourism industry stakeholders to strengthen destination readiness, support tourism accreditation, and develop market-ready travel packages.
The initiative also supports the DOT’s broader Discover More to Love campaign, which encourages travelers to venture beyond familiar destinations and experience more of the Philippines.
For Boracay and other island destinations, the Cebu gateway strategy could provide greater access to travelers through interconnected itineraries, while opening additional opportunities for hotels, tour operators, transport providers, restaurants, and other tourism-related businesses.
By linking Cebu’s air connectivity with the Visayas’ diverse tourism attractions, Aboitiz InfraCapital Cebu Airport Corporation and its partners aim to promote a more connected and accessible regional tourism network.
The campaign seeks to turn Cebu into more than an arrival pointโmaking it a strategic gateway for travelers looking to discover multiple island destinations across the Visayas.
