
BALETE, Aklan- The local government of Balete, Aklan has temporarily placed the entire town on restrictive status for hog raisers and livestock transport carriers because of a suspected case of African Swine Fever (ASF) in their town.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that several hogs died in the said town recently, prompting the local authorities to suspect an ASF case.
Because of the incident, the Balete town in the Western District of Aklan is now establishing border control points and biosecurity measures in certain localities and establishments in the said town.
Calizo said that there is currently a pending outcome of the laboratory analysis result of suspected ASF cases in Barangay Arcangel, Balete Aklan, both the Provincial and Municipal BABay ASF Program Task Force have recommended to temporarily suspend the movement, shipment, and trading of live hogs and all pork products out of that barangay to other barangays in Balete as well as out of the municipality to the rest of Aklan,” he said.
“Both task forces are also recommending the establishment of control points to impose biosecurity measures in the concerned areas and establishments,” added Calizo.
Biosecurity measures are also being set up at the Municipal Slaughterhouse .
