Roxas City, Capiz—Three-term Las Piñas Rep. Camille Villar, now a senatorial aspirant, said many women in the Philippines deserved more social support because they shoulder different roles in the family.
In a press conference at the provincial capitol here Tuesday, the young Villar was asked by a member of the media what her platform for women was since March was declared Women’s month.
Villar was invited by Capiz Governor Fredenil Castro at the Villareal Stadium to meet with the 10,000 fishermen and farmers in the province. Castro has also asked the help of some 3,000 employees at the Capitol to vote for Villar.
The Philippines is celebrating National Women’s Month with the sub theme this year “Babae sa Lahat ng Sektor, Aangat ang Bukas sa Bagong Pilipinas,” reinforcing gender equality and empowerment under the Magna Carta of Women (RA 9710).
“Women play different roles in the family because not only do they take care of their children, do household chores, and they also work to help augment the family income among others,” Villar said.
She added that her parents taught her to become a family-loving politician, a value she treasured the most.
Camille was the youngest in the family of business magnate Manny Villar and outgoing senator Cynthia Villar.
