Madalag, Aklan- The construction of a road improvement project in Madalag, Aklan, funded by the KALAHI-CIDSS Program, is currently underway with a budget exceeding Php2 million.
This project involves upgrading a 0.136-kilometer stretch of road that is 8 meters wide and installing slope protection features.
The improvements include stone masonry structures, with 136 linear meters of slope reinforced at 1.7 meters high along the creek side, and 120 linear meters at 2.1 meters high across the rice field.
A 0.30-meter-thick head wall provides additional stability and protection.
KALAHI-CIDSS Program provided a grant of Php2,015,000.00 for this project.
The Madalag Local Government Unit (LGU), along with the Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU), and the community also provide in-kind contributions for the completion of the project.
The primary goal of this infrastructure development is to enhance access and mobility for residents, thereby supporting economic growth and social progress in the area.
The slope protection was designed to prevent soil erosion and landslides, especially during heavy rains.
Reinforced concrete walls and retaining structures are being constructed to stabilize the slopes along the road.
Residents and barangay officials are optimistic about the project, noting that the improved road network will facilitate easier transportation, particularly during emergencies and for the delivery of goods and services.
The KALAHI-CIDSS Engineering Unit collaborates closely with the Area Coordinating Team, Municipal Coordinating Team, residents, and construction workers to ensure the successful implementation of the project.
This infrastructure project exemplifies the government’s commitment to community participation and empowerment, emphasizing local involvement in planning and execution.
It highlights the broader goal of promoting rural development, safety, and resilience in remote barangays, such as Alaminos, contributing to sustainable progress and community well-being./dswd/mmc
