Manila- The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) paid ₱81,342,580.52 million fire loss insurance claim to the City Government of Manila. The settlement covers damages from the Pritil Market fire in Tondo, which destroyed around 584 market stalls and disrupted the livelihoods of hundreds of vendors.

The check was turned over by GSIS Core Business Sector Executive Vice President Jason Teng, (fifth from left)–who represented GSIS President and General Manager Wick Veloso–to Manila Mayor Isko Moreno (fourth from left) who thanked GSIS for the settlement. The turn-over was held last January 12, 2026 during the flag raising ceremony.

The city has also renewed fire insurance for all its hospitals, public schools, and buildings to ensure essential services remain protected during emergencies.

According to the Public Information Office of Manila, the processing of the insurance claims were led by City General Services Office Director Ms. Thelma L. Perez and staff in coordination with the GSIS.

Moreno thanked the GSIS headed by Veloso for its swift response in helping the vendors of Manila.
