KALIBO, Aklan- For Councilor Matt Aaron P. Guzman, technical-vocational education is not just an alternative learning path but also a powerful tool that opens opportunities and transforms lives.
Before entering public service, Guzman served as an assessor and instructor of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). This gave him firsthand experience in helping individuals gain practical skills that lead to employment and livelihood opportunities. Through the years, he saw how skills training enabled many people to find jobs, earn income, and support their families.
Because of this experience, Guzman continues to hold TESDA in high regard and remains a strong advocate for expanding technical-vocational education in Aklan.
โSkills training creates opportunities by equipping people with competencies that industries need,โ Guzman said.
Today, TESDA continues to innovate through programs such as the Ladderized Education Program and diploma pathways. These programs allow learners to advance their qualifications while gaining skills that are relevant to industry needs, opening more opportunities for employment and career growth.
With more training opportunities available locally, young people, out-of-school youth, displaced workers, and aspiring entrepreneurs can acquire valuable skills closer to home. A skilled workforce also attracts investments, supports local businesses, and strengthens the provinceโs economy.
Recognizing these benefits, Guzman supports initiatives that will further strengthen TESDAโs services in Aklan, including the proposed construction of a TESDA Provincial Office in Kalibo, particularly in Barangay Nalook. The facility would improve the delivery of training programs and expand access to skills development throughout the province.
For Guzman, investing in technical-vocational education is ultimately an investment in people.
โWhen we invest in skills, we invest in people. And when people succeed, communities prosper.โ
