DA-WV Commends 38 Young Farmers, Sees Growing Interest in Agriculture

Numancia, Aklan — The Department of Agriculture (DA) -Westeen Visayas has commended the 38 winners of this year’s Young Farmers Challenge, highlighting the growing interest of young Filipinos in agriculture and the need to make farming a more sustainable and profitable livelihood.

DA Regional Executive Director Dennis Arpia congratulated the young farmers for their achievements, saying their participation in the competition reflects a renewed interest among the younger generation to engage in agriculture and agribusiness.

Arpia noted that more young people are now showing interest in farming, food production and other agriculture-related enterprises, providing optimism for the future of the country’s agricultural sector.

He expressed hope that the young farmers would be able to sustain and expand their ventures beyond the competition, stressing that support should continue even after they receive recognition and assistance from the government.

According to Arpia, the DA is also looking for ways to help young farmers generate more visible and sustainable income from their agricultural activities.

“The department aims to strengthen programs that can help young farmers improve production, develop their enterprises, access markets and turn their agricultural projects into viable sources of livelihood,” he told the Boracay Island News Network

Arpia said the success of the Young Farmers Challenge winners should serve as an inspiration to other young Filipinos to consider agriculture not only as a traditional livelihood but also as a promising field for entrepreneurship and innovation.

With the increasing participation of the youth, the DA hopes to build a new generation of farmers who can contribute to food security while helping modernize and strengthen the country’s agricultural industry.

The 38 young farmers who emerged as winners this year represent the potential of the youth to play a bigger role in shaping the future of Philippine agriculture.
