NEW WASHINGTON, Aklan- The town of New Washington in eastern side of Aklan is going to an exciting part after its mayor-elect vows to boost tourism and agricultural productivity.

Mayor-elect Jessica Panambo said she is planning to launch the Magical New Washington tag when she assumes office by July 1.

“I think Magical New Washington fits for my upcoming administration,” said Panambo.

Panambo defeated second term incumbent mayor Shimonette Peralta during the recent Presidential and local election. Panambo’s win is considered historic, making her a new generation of municipal chief executive in the said town.

According to the Aklan Provincial Tourism Office, the town of New Washington is offering a new tourism destination for the province. Among them were Soluna Restaurant in Barangay Mabilo, Payag Restaurant, Balai both in Barangay Jugas and Barrioscape Pearl Sol Restobar in Barangay Guinbaliwan.

For several years, the town of New Washington was known for some great religious leaders in Philippine history. Among them were Jaime Cardinal Sin, the 30th Archbishop of Manila and Abdias Dela Cruz, the sixth Obispo Maximo of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente.

Recently, the Secretary of the Navy Department of the United States of America has also announced it is naming a future navy destroyer ship in honor of a Filipino Seafarer Telesforo Trinidad, a native of New Washington.

“I am also planning to revive the nightlife activities in the said town, hoping to be part of the leisure destination in the province,” Panambo said.

Panambo will take her oath of office on June 27 this year.
