KALIBO, Aklan- An entrepreneur behind the supply of Ready to Lay Eggs (RTL) in Western Visayas warns the public that the price of each poultry egg may reach P12 in three months time.
Engr. Jun Agravante, chairman of the province’s Livestock and Poultry Association said that the price of eggs may soon rise due to the lack of supply of eggs with an increasing demand in the region.
Agravante supplies RTL Chickens to hundreds of entrepreneurs in the region coming from backyard producers, entrepreneurs and some comes from the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW’s).
“Among the factors are the strict regulations of several local governments in the imports of RT from Luzon because of the threats of the African Swine Fever, the instability of oil prices and the increasing demand of the tourism industry in Boracay,” Agravante said.
Currently, the price of each egg averaged at P8 each in Western Visayas.
The Department of Agriculture reported last week that currently there is sufficient supply of eggs in the region.
“The RTL usually lay eggs for two years, and then they will stop. The last time we delivered eggs to our consumers was two years ago. This means that we should deliver another set of RTL’s to among our entrepreneurs soon in the region to keep the supply of eggs steady,” Agravante added.
