Kalibo , Aklan-— A nearly P1-billion public infrastructure program is now underway in Kalibo as the municipal government, under the leadership of Mayor Juris Sucro, begins a new term focused on modernizing the town’s public services and preparing for future cityhood.
The ambitious program, supported by a P600-million credit line from the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) and Veterans Bank, includes major investments in public markets, healthcare, flood control, public spaces, and tourism facilities.
The following key projects are already in progress:
• New Kalibo Public Market — P380 Million
• Kalibo Community Hospital — Target P400 Million, with initial P40 Million awarded
• Flood Control Pumping Station — P90 Million
• Municipal Cemetery Upgrade — P60 Million
• Kalibo Convention Center — P50 Million
The combined P980-million investment represents one of the largest infrastructure efforts in Kalibo’s history — a move that supports the town’s long-term vision of becoming a component city.
“These are critical projects that will benefit the entire community and are part of our development roadmap,” Mayor Sucro stated. He also highlighted the importance of transparency and public accountability in ensuring that these projects are delivered effectively.
The infrastructure drive is also expected to create new economic opportunities, boost commerce and tourism, and strengthen essential public services.
Civic groups and local stakeholders have shown strong interest in monitoring the progress of the projects, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in achieving Kalibo’s development goals.
The municipal government continues to identify additional priorities, particularly in roads, drainage, and transport infrastructure, to further support Kalibo’s growing population and its aspirations for cityhood.
