Singapore- The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) received international acclaim at the 2025 GovMedia Conference and Awards, held on June 19 at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre in Singapore.

The institution brought home two honors: Social Equity and Inclusion Initiative of the Year – Pension for its gender-themed short film “Hapag,” and Public Sector Initiative of the Year – Housing for its innovative Lease with Option to Buy (LWOB) Program.

“These awards affirm that public service is not just about systems and numbers, it’s about people. At GSIS, we strive to create real opportunities for dignity, inclusion, and security. Whether through showcasing the life and resilience of the Filipino women or making it possible for a family to move into their dream home, we are committed to shaping a future where no one is left behind,” GSIS President and General Manager Wick Veloso said.

“Hapag,” launched in 2024 through GSIS’s Gender and Development Committee and Corporate Communications Office, used storytelling to highlight the intergenerational experiences of Filipino women, challenging societal norms and encouraging a more inclusive and empathetic institutional culture.

At the same time, GSIS’s Lease with Option to Buy Program has expanded access to affordable housing for government workers by offering lease arrangements with the flexibility to buy anytime eliminating traditional barriers such as steep down payments and inflexible financing terms. As of December 2024, more than 3,360 households have benefitted from the program. It has also contributed to GSIS’s financial sustainability, generating P428 million in revenue and placing over P3 billion worth of real estate under lease, while supporting the government’s flagship housing initiative, the Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino Program (4Ps).

The international recognition reflects  GSIS’s efforts to deliver responsive, people-centered public service through innovation, compassion, and collaboration.
