PLHIV thankful to WHO for continuing her advocacy despite Trump’s Withdrawal

Boracay Island- A Person Living with HIV here who leads a local advocacy group helping others has thanked the World Health Organization (WHO) for continuing its program. This is despite the recent withdrawal of the United States of America from the world health program.
Newly elected USA President Donald Trump has announced the country’s withdrawal from the WHO because of alleged mishandling of COVID-19 cases and other health crises. Because of this withdrawal, the USA government is stopping its funding assistance to WHO-related programs.
Devine Pogoy, the president of Positibong Laso, based here, said she is thankful that the WHO, through the Department of Health in the Philippines, continues the antiretroviral treatment program in the country.
The Positibong Laso is a group of HIV advocates that tends to support and empower People living with HIV in the province of Aklan.
“This continuity of care is crucial in our collective fight against HIV/AIDS, and we acknowledge the efforts of organizations and individuals working tirelessly to ensure uninterrupted access to life-saving medications,” Pogoy said.
“As we move forward, we recognize the importance of sustained global cooperation and commitment to combating HIV/AIDS. We are thankful for the unwavering dedication of healthcare workers, advocates, and organizations that work relentlessly to ensure that those affected by HIV/AIDS receive the care and support they need,” she added.
Pogoy who hails from Cebu publicly admitted her being a Person Living with HIV when she competed in the pageant search for Queen of Aklan in 2023. She won the crown because of her public confession in the hopes of eradicating stigma to those persons living with HIV.
