Boracay Island- A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) is signed between TESDA and
Small Players Association of Boracay – SPAB. The Commission appoints the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) organization as Aklan Industry Technical-Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Board for Tourism Sector.
The MOA Signing ceremony took place at GMarket, SPAB’s home and office. TESDA was represented by Regional Director – Mr. Ramon “Mon” Ivan Ruiz, Provincial Director – Mr. John D. Simborios, and Supervising TESDS – Mr. Mark Anthony Dolinog; while SPAB was led by the appointed representative, Founder, and BOT – Gil delos Santos together with the President – Ruth Tubo. SPAB officers and some members were also present to witness along with Technical-Vocational Institutions (TVI) in Aklan, St. Mary Technical Institute, Inc. and Irenaeus College, Inc.
PD Simborios explained that a TVET Board’s main function is to be part of the policy making body focused on, but not limited to, designing and or upgrading training manuals and techniques for technical-vocational courses being offered by TESDA.
Boracay suitably fits the criteria for a seat in the board as the island employs the highest percentage in Tesda Trained or certified workers in the region. SPAB meets the board’s requirements being a multi-industrial organization.
RD Mon Ruiz made the SPAB members proud of their MSME affiliation by acknowledging that 60-70% of the country’s economy is played by the Micro, Small, Medium-size Enterprises.
Alongside the SPAB’s representation at the National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC) as the Sectoral Representive in the Workers in the Informal Sector (WIS) in Western Visayas, this new seat as TESDA’s TVET Board shows SPAB’s determination in becoming a voice for the MSME and bettering lives of the less recognized yet significant sector.
