Don Carlos, Bukidnon- Having a hard time looking for a nutritious snack for kids?
As I nestled in the cool and verdant landscapes of Don Carlos, Bukidnon, there lies a hidden gem covered with flour that is nourishing both the belly and the dreams of many young learners—the Karabun a soft, creamy, and nutrient-packed bread roll from the Abellanosa Agricultural Learning Site and Dairy Farm.
The Abellanosa Agricultural Learning Site and Dairy Farm, owned by couple Carlo Magno and Nida Abellanosa, was established in 2017 and has become a beacon of sustainable agriculture. In 2018, ATI Northern Mindanao certified the farm as a learning site for agriculture for its integrated farming practices, including dairy buffalo production, milk processing, and other value-adding ventures.
At first glance, the Karabun looks like your regular bread roll. But once you take a bite, you will taste the rich, buttery softness that sets it apart from anything else on the market. The secret? Carabao’s milk.

Unlike normal buns, the Karabun is infused with high-quality carabao’s milk sourced directly from Abellanosa Dairy Farm. Carabao’s milk is known for its richness in protein, calcium, and good fats, making this bread more than just a tasty snack. As a fortified bread, the Karabun can last up to 7-8 days before spoiling.
The process begins early at the farm, where fresh carabao’s milk is harvested and processed in small batches. The milk is then used to enrich the dough mixture, replacing much of the water or other dairy components which is traditionally used in bread. The result is a dough that’s creamier, more elastic, and full of flavor. It is then shaped into rolls and buns and baked into golden perfection—lightly brown on the outside, pillow-soft inside.
With every bite, you will remember the comforting warmth of your childhood, waking up early in the morning with freshly-baked bread served at your table, dipping them in a hot beverage of your choice while eating together with your whole family at your grandma’s house.
You can eat it plain, but it also pairs well with peanut butter or a drizzle of honey. Some even enjoy it toasted with cheese for an afternoon snack that feels both indulgent and nourishing.
The Abellanosa Dairy Farm has a bakeshop that offers not just Karabuns but also other baked products packed with essential nutrients from carabao’s milk, and made with love by the local bakers.
Extending the nutritious food beyond their farm boundaries, the most impactful role of the Karabun is its use in the Department of Education’s school feeding program.

In line with the government’s efforts to combat malnutrition, Abellanosa Dairy Farm has partnered with the Philippine Carabao Center (PCC) and DepEd to provide Karabuns as a localized Nutribun—the fortified bread designed to help nourish undernourished school children across the country.
The Karabun doesn’t just fill hungry tummies—it uplifts a whole community. It supports local dairy farmers, provides jobs to bakers and processors in Don Carlos, and most importantly, gives children a better chance at learning by giving them the energy they need.
The Karabun is more than bread—it’s a story of innovation, dedication, and nutrition. It proves that with a little creativity and a lot of heart, local farms like Abellanosa DairyFarm can make an impact, one bun at a time. The said golden bun is priced at P18.00 (180 grams) and P10.00 (90 grams).
If you ever find yourself in Don Carlos, Bukidnon, don’t leave without experiencing the comforting taste of the Karabun. It’s a bite of hope, and it’s absolutely delicious.
