KALIBO, Aklan—A three-year-old girl stole the spotlight at a three-kilometer fun run jointly organized by the Aklan Police and Defense Press Corps (APDPC) and the Aklan Provincial Police Office (APPO) on Sunday morning.
The kid was identified as Arisha Mar Caballero, who ran the three kilometers around Kalibo for 40 minutes. Although she may not have been the fastest runner, she received a cash prize for being the youngest.
Astrophel Tabanera, president of the APDPC said the fun run dubbed “Daeagan sa Dimos na Dean” (running in a dirty path) is aimed at raising funds for the members of the media in the province for their medical insurance.
“Around 180 runners coming from the adjacent provinces of Capiz, Aklan, and Antique joined the said fun race despite the threat of Typhoon Leon,” said Tabanera.
The oldest was Fernando Quirino, at 64 years old.
Police Colonel Victorino Romanillos Jr., the chief of the APPO for his part, said that he supported the said activity to promote sports tourism in the province.
“Aside from the fun run, the province also has the potential in other related sports tourism such as trail running and cycling, among others,” he added.
