KALIBO, Aklan- The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)โ€“Aklan is revisiting 1,535 sample households to complete one-year data on income and expenditures, following the first phase of the Family Income and Expenditure Survey (FIES) conducted in July 2025.
In this round, the information being collected covers the family’s receipts and disbursements from July to December 2025.
The FIES seeks to generate comprehensive data that will determine income distribution and the degree of inequality among families, provide benchmark information for updating the weights used in the estimation of the Consumer Price Index (CPI), and serve as inputs in estimating poverty thresholds and poverty incidence at the national, regional, and provincial levels.
Furthermore, it provides inputs for measuring the Human Development Index (HDI) and assessing living conditions across different segments of the population, which are essential tools for evaluating the country’s social and economic development.
The PSA hired and deployed 49 data collectors to conduct the survey across identified sample households in 96 enumeration areas, covering 79 barangays in the province. They are supervised by five team supervisors, with each team comprising approximately 10 enumerators.
Data being collected from households include expenditures on food, clothing, electricity, household furnishings and equipment, health, transport, information and communication, education, durable equipment, restaurants and accommodation services, personal care and effects, and miscellaneous goods and services. Information on housing characteristics, social protection, and sources of incomeโ€”both cash and in-kindโ€”is also included.
The FIES is a nationwide survey conducted every two years and implemented as a rider to the Labor Force Survey.
Results of a similar survey conducted in 2023 revealed that the average annual income of Aklanon families was estimated at โ‚ฑ329,010, representing a 17.1 percent increase from the โ‚ฑ281,070 recorded in 2021.
Meanwhile, average annual family expenditures reached โ‚ฑ247,560 in 2023, up by 14.5 percent from โ‚ฑ216,230 in 2021. This resulted in an average annual savings of approximately โ‚ฑ81,000 per family.
Data further showed that the average annual family income of the tenth decile (richest group) in 2023 was nearly five times higher than that of the first decile (poorest group), while expenditures reflected a threefold difference.
In terms of spending patterns, about 42.4 percent of total household expenditures in the province were allocated to food and non-alcoholic beverages, followed by housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels at 21.0 percent.
Transport accounted for 6.5 percent of expenses, while health-related spending comprised 4.4 percent. Expenditures on personal care, social protection, and miscellaneous goods and services
accounted for 3.9 percent, while education represented 3.6 percent.
In this regard, the PSA urged all identified respondents to provide truthful and honest answers to data collectors so that quality statistics can be produced that reflect the current economic condition of families in Aklan.
The agency also emphasized that all information gathered will be treated with strict confidentiality, in accordance with existing laws.
