NEW WASHINGTON, Aklan- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), through its Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan โ€“ Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) program under the Kapangyarihan at Kaunlaran sa Barangay (KKB) modality, successfully conducted a two-day Cash-for-Work Program (CFWP) TheraFee Payout Activity for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) from June 26 to 27, 2025 at New Washington Center and Madalag Gym in Kalibo, Aklan.
A total of 510 beneficiaries under the regular CFWP for PWD and 45 TheraFee clients, received their cash assistance amounting to โ‚ฑ2,847,150.00. Each beneficiary was compensated at โ‚ฑ513 per day for a maximum of 10 days of community work.
The initiative, launched in 2023, continues to bridge economic gaps for vulnerable groups while highlighting the vital role of PWDs and caregivers in community development.
โ€œThe program delivers far more than just financial aid; it’s a powerful force for empowerment, inclusion, and dignity. PWDs are not just recipients; they are active contributors, tackling vital community-driven tasks like public space clean-ups and essential barangay support activities,โ€ said KALAHI-CIDSS Deputy National Program Manager for Operations Rolando D. Villacorta, Jr.
Simultaneously, the innovative TheraFee initiative extends its support to persons with disabilities with permanent total disability rendering them fully dependent on others for daily care and support and their dedicated guardians, recognizing and easing the unique burdens of caregiving while also addressing crucial livelihood needs within vulnerable families.
โ€œDSWD recognizes the capability and potential of persons with disabilities, by giving them a platform to contribute and feel valued,โ€ Villacorta added.
Through participatory and community-based approaches, the CFWP challenges stigma, fosters self-worth, and promotes social justice and human rights. It is a clear testament to the governmentโ€™s commitment to inclusive, sustainable, and community-led development.
As the 2025 rollout concludes, DSWD KALAHI-CIDSS continues to champion programs that uplift the most vulnerable sectors, ensuring no one is left behind in the journey toward social equity. (kcnpmo/ahff)
