Tangalan, Aklan—Second district Congressman Teodorico Haresco Jr. has urged President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. to develop an expressway in Panay as an alternative to the revival of the century-old Panay Railway.
At a press conference here, Haresco said that he has personally asked President Marcos to consider the development of a Panay Expressway.
President Marcos Jr. in his State of the Nations Address has mentioned reviving the Panay Railways as part of her administration priority program.
“As an economist, it is too costly for the government to rebuild the Panay Railways due to several considerations. I think it is more practical for now to develop a Panay Expressway instead of a railway,” he said.
Among those being considered include the feasibility of the Panay Railway Project and the displacement of hundreds of residents living along the old railway lane.
“The expressway is relevant, especially in the transfer of cargo coming from Iloilo to Boracay Island. It is also cost-efficient, “he added.
