2 Security Guards Held for Gunban Violation

Malay, Philippines-two security guards were arrested for violation of gun ban imposed by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections in the afternoon of Sept. 7, 2023 at Tabon Port, Caticlan, Malay, Aklan.

The suspects are resident of Ibajay, Aklan and Poblacion, Malay, Aklan. Both of them were walking at Tabon Port armed with firearms after escorting cash from a bank in Boracay Island.

According to PLTCOL DAINIS O AMUGUIS, OIC of Malay MPS, he asked the two suspects to present their Certificate of Authority from COMELEC for carrying and bearing firearms but failed to do so.

The Malay PNP seized 2 shotguns and 9mm pistol that were loaded with ammunitions.

Both suspects are private security personnel of a private security investigation agency based in Mindanao and were brought to Malay Municipal Police Station for proper disposition.

The COMELEC prohibits carrying and transporting of firearms, explosives and other deadly weapons during the Election Period from Aug. 28 to Nov. 29 except with an approved Certificate of Authority from them.
