𝐄𝐂𝐀𝐑 𝐕𝐈 𝐦𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐄𝐑𝐂 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐬 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐖𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐲𝐚𝐬

Iloilo City – Members of the Electric Cooperatives Association of Region VI (ECAR VI) met with the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) Chairperson, Atty. Monalisa Dimalanta, to discuss the power situation in the Western Visayas Region last February 2, 2024, in Iloilo City.

One of the major concerns raised by ECAR VI is the possible spot market exposure of its member ECs with pending PSAs and during shutdown of power plants in the island in cases of maintenance schedule.

ECAR VI also made clarification on the requirements and possible relaxation of ERC Rules if ever ECs will engage in EPSA to temporarily meet the growing demand of power supply especially this summer season where the demand of power supply is increasing and shield their valued member-consumer-owners from the high WESM rates.

“We are hoping that this dialogue will become a venue to clarify concerns that our member ECs have in preparation of the summer season,” Shirley S. Laurente, ECAR VI President, said in a statement.

Chairperson Dimalanta emphasized the role of ancillary services (AS) in stabilizing electricity supply, and the crucial need to meet AS requirements for the region.

Attending the dialogue are ERC Chairperson and CEO Atty. Monalisa C. Dimalanta, and key officers from Aklan Electric Cooperative, Inc. (AKELCO), Antique Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ANTECO), Capiz Electric Cooperative Inc. (CAPELCO), Central Negros Electric Cooperative, Inc. (CENECO), Guimaras Electric Cooperative, Inc. (GUIMELCO), Iloilo I Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ILECO I), Iloilo II Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ILECO II), Iloilo III Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ILECO III), Negros Occidental Electric Cooperative, Inc. (NOCECO), and Northern Negros Electric Cooperative, Inc. (NONECO).
