KALIBO, Aklan- Members of the tri-media in the province of Aklan are joining the synchronized celebration of the World Press Freedom Day celebration on May 11 this year.
To be held at the Ati-atihan Festival Hotel, the celebration is organized by the Aklan Media-Citizens Council (AMCC) together with the Aklan Press Club and the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines-Aklan Chapter, Akeanon News and the Boracay Island News Network.
The said event is supported by European-based international Media Support (IMS)ย through the Philippine Press Institute. Aside from Aklan, other areas celebrating the synchronized World Press Freedom Day will be hosted by Davao together with Iloilo, Region 8, Batangas, and Surigao, among others.
This year’s theme is “A Press for the Planet: Journalism in the Face of the Environmental Crisis.’
Joe Torres, the director general of the Philippine Information Agency, will lead the expression of support for press freedom in Aklan together with several stakeholders.
Among the activities include the Kapehan Forum to be discussed on media safety and a short lecture on the role of media in environmental protection by the AMCC’s legal consultant, Atty. Darren Mae Esto, and to the winners of the first community photojournalism competitions.
The Kalibo Cable Television Inc will air live the Kapehan.
Ariel Cebelinno, of the PPI, said that at 1:00 pm, there will be a Zoom meeting among the participating local councils in the country to discuss among them their activities on World Press Freedom Day.
