Aklan’s rising star: their fashion designers!

KALIBO, Aklan – For several years, the province of Aklan became famous not only for its white sand and turquoise beach on Boracay Island and the lively, colorful ati-atihan festivity. The province now has a rising star, and they are known as the Aklan Fashion Designers Association (AFDA).

The group that was formed only three years ago has already created ripples in both the international and national fashion industry.  Its new president, Shreree Reynaldo, together with her new set of officers, manifests new heights of fashion, promoting not only world-class artistry but also the raw, simple turning of elegant indigenous products of Aklan.

The new set of officers includes Reynaldo as Chairman; Carlo Eliserio as Vice Chairman; Fhryne Danan, the secretary; Ava Mae Ganzon, treasurer; Eugene Flores as auditor; Lyndon Dalida, the business manager; Juline Mikaelo Gumboc as external program development officer.

The board of trustees includes founding chairman Adriano Samar, Joeriz Quinesio, Asia Adrianna Ybarra, Mel Grecia Quimpo and Alentueah Samonte.

Both Aklan Governor Jose Enrique Miraflores and Kalibo Mayor Juris Bautista-Sucro graced the oath-taking ceremony held at the Vanyard Hotel. Highlighting their support for the organization’s thrust of fashion with a purpose.

  Among those national personalities who took cognizance of the Aklan fashion industry are Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano, who was spotted wearing Racquel’s and Pina cloth creation during her attendance at the State of the Nation Address of President Bongbong Marcos Jr. Comedian and television personality Melai Cantiveros-Francisco  was also spotted wearing AFDA’s creations during the Philippine Got Talent Season 7 finals.

Famous content creator Small Laude is also a patron of AFDA.

Mayor Cayetano is the wife of Senator Allan Peter Cayetano.
