Boracay Island-The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) has recently approved the Malbog, Looc–Caticlan port route, opening a new sea link that could reshape tourism in Northern Panay and the Romblon island group. This shorter ferry route to Looc, located in southern Tablas Island, offers a convenient connection for travelers seeking fresh destinations beyond Boracay.

Romblon, known for its long white beaches, unspoiled dive spots, rich biodiversity, and renowned marble craftsmanship, is poised to become the next frontier in island tourism. With the improved ferry service, visitors can now combine Boracay with Looc and other Romblon attractions in a seamless island-hopping experience, adding new depth to the central Philippines’ tourism offerings.

For Aklan, this development comes at the right time. The ongoing expansion of Godofredo P. Ramos Airport in Caticlan will soon accommodate more international and domestic flights, making the province an even stronger gateway for travelers. By aligning the new sea link with the airport project, Aklan can position itself as the center of an emerging tourism circuit that stretches from Boracay to Romblon and beyond.

Local leaders and tourism stakeholders must act quickly. Integrating the Malbog–Caticlan route into Aklan’s tourism development plan is essential to attract more tourists, encourage longer stays, and boost trade and people-to-people connections. With vision and collaboration, this new connection can transform Boracay and Aklan into a true hub for world-class island tourism.
