DPWH Completes P59.4M Flood Mitigation Project
A flood control structure built by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) now protects communities highly vulnerable to flooding in Libacao, Aklan.
With a budget of P59.4 million, DPWH Aklan District Engineering Office used steel sheet piles, concrete blocks, hexapod, and an access ramp in the construction of the 390-meter revetment wall.
According to DPWH Region 6 Director Nerie D. Bueno, the new structure now serves as a barrier against water overflow and possible erosion which may affect local communities near the river, particularly the flood hazard area in Barangay Rivera.
The flood control structure will also protect nearby national roads from potential damage which will allow unhampered transport of basic goods and services to remote areas in Aklan.
βDPWH will continue to do its part in helping mitigate disaster risks in local communities by providing all-weather infrastructure that protects people, property, and livelihood,β said Director Bueno.
